New beds, gravel paths, and a scarecrow were added to the Pike View Community Garden today during the Fall work day. Thanks to the staff, PVECC families, and Fellowship North! Even the chickens got in on the fun.
It was a busy morning at NLR Academy. Students, staff and community volunteers got together to prepare the school’s garden and build a fence.
Congratulations to Lindsey Hefner, science teacher at the COE. Ms. Hefner (right), received NLR Kiwanis Club's "Teacher of the Quarter". Ms. Hefner received the award for her many outstanding and dedicated accomplishments while educating the students at the Center of Excellence. Thank you Ms. Hefner for all that you do for our students and to NLR Kiwanis for recognizing great teachers.

The Book Express was recognized with the Innovative Community Development Award by the Arkansas Community Development Society. This award recognized the work of North Little Rock Community, Civic Organizations and the Church Community for the implementation of this literacy initiative for students. Lakewood Elementary Kindergarten students kicked off a unit study on owls by a visit from the Little Rock Zoo. The students learned a great deal and are excited to learn more about these fascinating birds.
The PVECC Wellness Committee has planned events throughout the month of October around Breast Cancer Awareness. This week children, parents and staff added their pink handprints to create a "Stop Cancer" mural for the hallway.

On 10-13, a FREE poetry writing workshop & book signing is happening for the new children’s book Joe Got Flow by Chris James. The book is a great academic enrichment activity for students!

The NLRSD Special Services Department cordially invites representatives from all private schools and homeschools within our district to attend the 2018 Child Find Information Meeting. This meeting will be held on October 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., and will be located at the NLRSD Administrative Annex, 2200 N. Poplar Street, room 206.
