The City of North Little Rock is expected to experience extreme temperatures in the coming days. In an effort to provide shelter to those in need, the city is offering a warming center located inside the NLR Community Center. Stay warm Wildcats!

The North Little Rock School District will observe the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, January 15, 2024. All schools and district offices will be closed.
Normal operations will resume on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. We will continue to monitor the inclement weather forcasted for early next week. Additional information will be provided regarding school operations as it becomes available.
Reminder: Because of the shortened week due to the holiday, students will not be released early on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Wednesday will be a full day of classes.

Happy Friday!

Please be mindful of the following:
• The Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball Teams will have a matchup at home on Friday against Jonesboro. Due to the possibility of inclement weather on Friday, the Varsity Girls will play at 5:00 p.m. (instead of 6:00 p.m.) and Varsity Boys will play immediately afterward. There will be no JV game.
• The rescheduled matchup between Lady Cats and Southwest Lady Gryphons will be January 18 at 6:00 p.m. at Southwest High.

It is with extreme sadness that we notify you of the passing of a beloved NLRHS teacher and colleague, Mr. Stanley Whisnant.
Mr. Whisnant was admired by students, fellow teachers and staff, and families. Students looked forward to taking EAST because they would be able to work with him on innovative, self-guided projects.
Mr. Whisnant joined the district in August 1998 and has been a fixture in our district and in our community.
Mr. Whisnant was a man of great strength, and he loved North Little Rock High School and the North Little Rock School District. Although seriously ill, he fought through pain to be on campus with his students. He found joy in the classroom.
A memorial service will be held in his honor in the NLRHS Performing Arts Center on Thursday, January 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Our Board Workshop set to take place at 5:30 p.m. will begin at 6:30 p.m. so that everyone can attend the service if they desire.
Please remember his wife, Mrs. Karla Whisnant, the Principal at the Center of Excellence (COE), and his daughters, Ms. Jordan Whisnant, a Crestwood Elementary School teacher, and Ms. Jadyn Whisnant, a 2022 COE alumna, and the entire family throughout this time.

Can you identify (and tag) these ladies on the 1996 NLRHS Homecoming Court? #TBT #NLR

Have a great holiday break!

NLRMS students took the opportunity to spread some holiday cheer and visited the Ronald McDonald House this week. They took items, such as books, games, cleaning supplies, and toiletries, to provide for families that are staying at the home as their child receives care at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Their teachers, Mrs. Batte and Mr. Beasley, said that this experience was planned to teach students about being servants in the community.

In this photo, students can be seen entering and exiting Scipio A. Jones High School. The school closed in 1970, yet the Dragon spirit lives on! Former students formed the Scipio A. Jones High School National Alumni Association. They regularly hold reunions. #TBT #NLR

Congratulations to Lauren Smithey, the Gifted and Talented Facilitator at Indian Hills Elementary, on being named a Javits-Frazier Scholar!
This recognition, provided by the National Association for Gifted Children, provides teachers of students of all backgrounds in gifted programs with advanced learning and new perspectives on what giftedness looks like in different environments.
