The North Little Rock School District will observe Juneteenth on June 19, 2024. All schools and district office sites will be closed.
This is the first year that the district will observe Juneteenth.
On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, with news of freedom. More than 250,000 African Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day.

This month's recipient of the Great Rising Adult-Youth Mentor Award is Reynardo Marks of the NLR Chamber of Commerce. While he went to the 7th & 8th Grade Campus for his job to speak with students, he has developed an interest in mentoring the students at the school.

Carlton Burton and Ebony Thomas, custodians at Seventh Street Elementary, received the Superintendent's Honor Roll for taking on additional roles as a result of their colleague's extended medical leave. Their dedication does not go unnoticed.
