First grade teachers at Indian Hills nominated Russ and Emily Allen for the Parent North S.T.A.R award. Their son, Jarrett, was a student at IH. He passed away in 2021. However, this family volunteers at IH and has begun a program to help needy individuals in the community.
Dear IHE Families,
We all know what significant role books play in the education of our children. To celebrate books and help grow a love for them, we invite our students to dress up as storybook characters from a book of their choice. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character. Students dressed as Storybook Characters will walk in our outdoor parade. Students may choose any character from a book they enjoy following the guidelines in this letter. To support students’ feelings of safety and security in our building, violent or frightening costumes are unacceptable. No weapons or dangerous-looking items will be permitted to accompany a costume. Here are some examples of acceptable costume choices and some examples of unacceptable choices. This should be simple, fun, and educational! Students are encouraged to bring in the book that their character is from.
Acceptable Examples
· Fancy Nancy
· Cinderella, Snow White, etc.
· Greg Heffley (the Wimpy Kid)
· Ramona
· Superman, Spiderman, etc.
· Ms. Frizzle
· Babymouse
· Bone
· Olivia
· Junie B. Jones
· Nate the Great
· Geronimo Stilton
Unacceptable Examples
· Characters from Goosebumps
· Vampires
· Grim Reaper
· Characters with guns or weapons
· Ghosts
· Horror movie characters
·
Captain Underpants (inappropriate for school)
Easy and low cost ways to dress up:
· The Cat in the Hat – red and white striped paper hat and painted whiskers
· Oliva – red dress and paper pig ears
· Clifford – red shirt and black nose
· Pete the Cat – blue paper cat ears, blue shirt, & red shoes
Students may dress up as their favorite book characters. Parents, please make sure that the costume is appropriate for school.
Bonus! Our students will have the privilege of trick or treating while walking in the parade. Parents, if you would like to volunteer your time and possibly prepackaged sweet treats, we would love for you to join us Friday, 10/28/22, from 8:15 am to 9:15 am.
Families, guardians, and caregivers, we want to hear from you. We are working hard at Indian Hills Elementary to get our parents, guardians, and community members involved on our campus. We ask that you complete the survey below so we can gain more insight on things we can work on to improve our campus.
