National Bus Safety Week!
IHE 4th and 5th graders participated in National Bus Safety Week! It is held during the third full week of October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties - to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety. It is designed to promote school bus safety.
IHE Jr. Fire Marshals were trained by the North Little Rock Fire Department on October 11, 2017. The students joined all elementary school fire marshals from around the North Little Rock School District for their annual training. Students were given a great deal of information and also participated in hands-on activities. The fifth grade fire marshals make sure the school is safely evacuated during monthly fire drills.
Thank you to the NLRFD for the fun day of training and the hot dog lunch!

We are excited to announce that on October 27th our school will have a Book Character Day! On that day, each student should come to school dressed up as a character from a favorite book. The character must be from a book (not a movie or cartoon) and your child should be prepared to describe both the character and the book in class.
Please work with your child to plan a simple costume and then fill out the form below to return to your child’s teacher. The teacher will need to know the name of the character and the book, in which they found the character. If you have access to the book, please send it with your child to school on Book Character Day. Please ask your child’s teacher for help if you don’t have access to books or if you need ideas on book characters/ways to dress up.

Good Evening!
Several concerns have been brought to the attention of the IHE staff and PTA officers concerning our student pick-up and drop-off.
As all of our veteran Indian Hills Parents know drop off and pick –up can be overwhelming. We have worked with the city, district, police, parents and community for input and support. First and foremost we care about the safety of every child, parent, and staff member!
Please follow these helpful tips:
•Please enter/exit from the intersection of Osage Drive and Wigwam.
•During drop off and pick up, parent vehicles are not to enter the teacher parking lot. If you are dropping your child off or picking them up near the gym, you are to park your vehicle and walk up to the designated area.
•During pick up, please remain in your vehicle. Do not walk through cars to pick up your student from the car pick up area.
•During drop off and pick up, cell phones are prohibited
•Be courteous to other drivers
•No dropping off in the back parking lot
•No parking in grass areas around the building
•No parking on Indian Hills drive from the corner next to Kroger’s to the end of the school property on either side of the road from 7:20-3:30.
Please help us keep our students safe.
Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Each month, there will be a different “character theme” for students. Each IHE grade level teacher will have the opportunity to nominate one of their students at the end of each month who they feel have demonstrated the specific character trait through their true actions, words, and behaviors. Congratulations to our September Good Character Students! September word of the month is Respect.
October Word of the Month: Responsibility
Lost and found for clothing items will be located in the cafeteria. All items of value will be kept in the main office. Students who have lost an item should check the lost and found to see if their possessions have been found. It is suggested that coats, clothing, lunch boxes, and other items are labeled in the event that they are lost. Items not picked up in a reasonable amount of time will be donated to a charitable organization on a quarterly basis.
