It’s National FFA Week, and as we prepare for the launch of the North Little Rock 6 Academy of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences in the fall, we will take a look at some potential careers in agriculture.
Career #6: Animal Scientist
An animal scientist studies animal biology, behavior, and management to improve livestock and wildlife care. They do this by analyzing factors like nutrition, genetics, health, and reproduction. These scientists work closely with farmers and ranchers to enhance animals’ health and well-being.
Many secondary streets remain covered in snow and ice, making travel dangerous.
As a result, all schools will be closed Friday, Feb. 21. Central Office sites, however, will open at 10 AM for 12-month employees.

Career #5: Agricultural Marketing Specialist
These specialists oversee the marketing of agricultural products, from growing and harvesting to pricing and distribution. They make sure marketing agreements and regulations are followed to help producers, ensure consistent product sales, and prevent unfair trade practices.
The COE student ambassadors represent their campus and respective career academy. They provide students, potential students, families, and businesses with information on their school, their paths of study, and represent the student body at various events.
The ambassadors are model scholars and do an exceptional job of promoting their school and providing insight on the various opportunities afforded to students.
Due to ice, snow, and extreme cold temperatures, all schools and Central Office sites will be closed on Feb. 20. Tomorrow's school board meeting has been rescheduled for Feb. 27.

Career #4: Agricultural Policy Analyst
An agricultural policy analyst is a professional who researches the impact current and proposed laws and government policies have on people and communities. They study regulations and make suggestions to policymakers and government leaders on ways to improve practices that will benefit the public.
Due to the winter weather that is expected to hit our region, all schools and Central Office sites will be closed on Wednesday, February 19.

Career #3: Food Scientist
A food scientist focuses on the quality, safety, and nutritional value of food products through research and development. They also ensure that companies follow food safety standards, while serving on the front lines of creating new food products.
Due to ice and snow in the forecast, the NLRSD will be on a modified schedule and will dismiss early on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

A horticulturist is considered to be an expert in plant cultivation and improves the growth of food, along with garden and medicinal plants. They are knowledgeable about seeds, soil, and plants and the types of environments they need in order to produce high yields.

Engineers in this field work to address issues such as pollution control, resource management, sustainable production, and the environmental impact of agriculture, while also improving post-harvest handling of agricultural products.
