Crestwood Elementary will receive more than $90,000 for results on state-required assessments for the 2017-2018 school year.
The Arkansas School Recognition Program, a component of the Arkansas Department of Education, provides funds to schools for achievement in growth and performance. In all, more than 175 public schools across the state are poised to receive the monetary gift, which can be used on faculty and staff bonuses, educational equipment and materials, or personnel to assist with improving or maintaining student performance, according to a news release from the Arkansas Department of Education.
Crestwood was saluted for Top 5% Growth and Top 5% Performance, valued at $45,027.72 each.
Principal Brent Miller, whose tenure at the school began this school year, said his excitement about this achievement is an understatement. The former principal, Lori Smith, is now the Executive Director of Elementary Curriculum, Assessment, and Accountability at Central Office.
“In my short time at Crestwood, I have been continually amazed at how diligent our teachers, parents, and community have been in ensuring all students succeed,” he said.
Miller said the school culture, caring teachers and staff, and parental and community involvement all play a role in their receiving this honor.
“This is a winning combination and one that allows us to strive for excellence with our students,” he said.
Miller said building leaders have not determined how they will use the money at the moment.
Superintendent Bobby Acklin commended the staff and students on the honor.
“Our hats off to the students, faculty and staff, and parents of Crestwood! We are proud of the work that is being done there. It shows in student achievement. It’s not easy to do what they’ve done,” Acklin said.
