Brandt “BT” Carmical, a veteran law enforcement executive in narcotics enforcement, tactical operations, and officer development, has been selected to lead the North Little Rock School District’s Safety Services Department.  

For the past four years, Carmical has served as Chief of Police at Camp Robinson, which serves as both the central hub for Arkansas National Guard logistics and headquarters for the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management. In this role, he directs all law enforcement, security operations, patrol functions, and emergency response incidents.  Carmical earned a spot at the world-renowned FBI National Academy, a premier executive leadership program reserved for fewer than one percent of law enforcement officers worldwide. He was chosen by his international peers to serve as Class President and Spokesperson for Session 294. 

Before taking the helm at Camp Robinson, Carmical built a nearly 26-year career with the North Little Rock Police Department (NLRPD). His diverse background with the department includes service as an officer, detective, training instructor, SWAT Commander, and Narcotics Sergeant. Throughout his tenure with the NLRPD, Carmical earned numerous prestigious accolades, including Officer of the Year, two Life Saving Awards, and multiple commendations from local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. 

Carmical received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Carmical is married to his wife, Mandee, and they have two children.
