Dear NLRSD families,
I wanted to take a moment to encourage each of you to support the local PTA units at your children’s schools.
As we all know, this year is going to look different for all of us - students, teachers and staff, and families. Because of the overarching need to protect our students and those who work in each of our schools, volunteers will not be allowed into our buildings at this time. Because of this, it may seem that your PTA is not as involved. Let me assure you, though, that each of our PTA units is ready and willing to serve our students, teachers, and staff - even if that service may be a little different for the time being.
Do you know what our PTA units do? Here are just a few of the ways PTA makes a difference in our schools: PTA helps fund incentives for students, PTA provides funds for academic awards, PTA organizes and helps fund a variety of extracurricular events for students, and PTA helps organize and fund appreciation events for our teachers and staff. In addition to the work done by our local units, your NLR PTA Council provides funds for students in need of assistance with eyeglasses, as well as an annual donation to the NLR Scholarship fund.
Because of the pandemic, our units will face challenges to fundraising, but we will continue to do the work to support our students, teachers, and staff. The simple act of purchasing a PTA membership will help our local units continue to provide those support services.
Joining your local PTA unit will not only help us provide support in our schools this year, but it also gives you an opportunity to be involved and be among the first to know what is going on in your school. Our units will be creative in scheduling on-line meeting options so that we can keep you informed. Ultimately, you can be as involved as little or as much as you want. In the days ahead, look for communications from your PTA units about how to purchase a membership, how to be involved, or simply how to receive PTA updates.
