School Choice, Special Permission

Starting January 7, parents can take part in the process to have their children become a part of the North Little Rock School District for the 2020-2021 school year.  This is possible through The Public School Choice Act of 2015, which allows Arkansas students to attend a school outside of the zone in which they live.

Parents interested in enrolling their children into the district must do so in person at the Office of Student & Equity Services, which is located on 2200 N. Poplar Street, on the first floor of the Annex Building.  In addition, parents must bring a utility bill or lease that bears their name.

The North Little Rock School District offers its students well-rounded academic, extracurricular, and social experiences, which are evident in its diverse student body and distinguished alumni.  While the district is situated in a metropolitan area, its students and staff enjoy a sense of community that mimics a small town.

The district has more than 8,000 students.  There are nine elementary schools, one middle school with two campuses – the Sixth Grade Campus and the Seventh & Eighth Grade Campus, two high schools – North Little Rock High School and the North Little Rock Center of Excellence – and an alternative learning center.  The district is home to a diverse student body, modern facilities, a competitive athletics program, a superior fine arts program, and strong community support.

“We have everything in place to make sure every child succeeds,” said Bobby J. Acklin, Superintendent of the North Little Rock School District.  “We are a student-centered district, and we do whatever it takes to ensure our students are leaders in whatever profession they choose.”

From January 7 until February 15, current families who seek special permission to have their students transferred to another school in the district must provide documentation in person at the Office of Student & Equity Services, explaining why special permission is necessary.  All applications will be reviewed, and parents will be notified in writing of the school assignment before school begins in August.

School choice runs until May 1.
