Resilience

I know we are all at home learning how to navigate during this time. One of the most important things you can do is keep a consistent routine (as much as possible) with you child. Did you know that routines lay the foundation for resiliency? Knowing what to expect helps children feel safe and secure—allowing their growing minds to explore and absorb information from the world around them. But life with a child can be anything but routine. Some days are smooth as silk, while others are a hot mess. Every day is different, so how do we maintain consistency? The key is to start small.

Here are a few ideas:

Rise and shine. I know our schedules are all out of whack, but try to wake up at about the same time every day. Sing a good-morning song and talk together as you prepare breakfast.

Unwind together. At the end of the day, spend a few quiet moments sitting close and taking deep breaths together. Read to your child everyday.

Share your heart. The most valuable thing we can do for our kids is let them know they are loved. Say, “I love you” every day!

This Week’s Challenge
Think about your typical day, and choose one routine this week to be really consistent about. Do your best to be completely present with your child during this time.

Here's to a great week learning and exploring with your child!
