This is National School Breakfast Week! This year's theme, “Score Big with School Breakfast,” reminds us all that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students. Studies have shown that students who participated in the school breakfast program reached higher levels of achievement in reading and math, along with higher scores on standardized tests. The NLRSD Child Nutrition Department will celebrate this week by giving away prizes to students eating breakfast in the cafeteria.

The North Little Rock School District has made a temporary and immediate change to its Point of Contact (POC) position for staff, students, and parents to report positive COVID-19 cases and to serve as the district’s liaison to the Arkansas Department of Health. Nurse Tonya Green will serve as the district’s POC from now until further notice. Nurse Tonya or another school nurse will manage the district’s COVID-19 hotline. The number to the hotline is (501) 240-1753. The hotline will be operational between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Anyone who calls the hotline after 8:00 p.m. is urged to leave a voicemail, and the call will be returned the following day. If it is an emergency, please call 911.

We have been approved to have Virtual Learning Fridays! This will begin on 10/23. In summary, attending school on Fridays is optional. Students enrolled in face-to-face instruction will have the option of completing assignments either in person or at home. Virtual students will complete assignments as normal. The NLR Board of Education voted to approve new start and end times for our schools. The times are as follows: Elementary: 7:50 a.m.-2:35 p.m. Middle: 8:10 a.m.-3:25 p.m. High: 8:40 a.m.-3:55 p.m. Pre-K times will remain the same: 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Schools will open to students who ride buses first. The following are drop off times for students who drive, walk, or are dropped off. Elementary: 7:20 a.m. Middle: 7:40 a.m. High: 7:55 a.m.
Last night, the North Little Rock Board of Education voted not to mandate the uniform policy for the 2020-2021 school year. Our elementary and middle school students wear uniforms. We know that some families have already purchased uniforms for the new school year. Feel free to send your student to school in that apparel. We understand that many of our families have been negatively affected by this pandemic and are unable to purchase uniforms for their students. Please be aware that teachers and administrators will expect students to report to school in presentable, distraction-free attire. Those who do not will be subject to disciplinary actions. Per the directives from yesterday's news conference, the North Little Rock School District will offer the traditional, five-day blended learning option and a 100% virtual learning option. NLRSD has partnered with Club Eco Kidz, a local nonprofit organization, and they will provide nutritious breakfast and lunch to our students starting tomorrow (3/23) until April 17! The organization will be at every elementary school, the middle school, the high school campus, and at the Academy. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon to 1:30 p.m. This will be grab and go. Enjoy!

In light of the violent threat made against schools in Arkansas, the North Little Rock School District is taking extra steps to ensure that each campus remains a safe and healthy environment for everyone. The district is aware of flooding in a number of areas. We ask that you use extreme caution as safety is top priority. All elementary schools will hold Kindergarten Round-Up on April 11, 2019 @ 1:30 . Incoming kindergarten students and their parents are welcome to attend at their zoned school. Online registration for all students NEW to the district will open on Monday, Feb. 18.

Booths will be set up in the lobby with information on varies community resources. Booths will open after the PTA meeting. The PTA Meeting will begin at 5:30 in the gym. Elections for PTA positions will be held at this meeting. Refreshments will be served at Book Fair! Ridge Road Flu Clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, October 24 from 9-11 am. Consent forms are being sent home this week. Students must have a completed form in order to receive the vaccine. Forms are also available on the NLRSD website for your convenience. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse. UPDATE: Walk & Bike to School Day has changed to FRIDAY October 12th, with the impending rain! We will meet at Levy Church of Christ on Camp Robinson Road at 6:45 am and start walking or biking no later than 7:00. We will take the trail to Massie Road up to Ridge Road and then cross over the walking bridge. Parents are more than welcome to volunteer and walk with us. Please sign up with your classroom teacher if you plan on participating or volunteering.

From RRE: Our girls basketball team will play in the championship tomorrow at 10:30am in the high school arena. The cheerleaders will compete at 1:30pm. All stars will play games afterward. The North Little Rock Elementary Schools will hold individual conferences with parents to explain their child’s progress in school. These conferences will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and Friday, February 16, 2018, from 8:00 am to – 11:00 am. No School for Students on February 16th. The parent-teacher conference, which will last approximately ten to fifteen minutes, will give the teacher(s) and you an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress in all areas of the school program. Make sure you have scheduled yours and be on time.
Valentine's Parties are tomorrow at 1:30. Be sure to send valentine's with your child to pass out to their class. Parents are welcome to visit the classroom during party time. Introducing our new PTA President: My name is Jamie Prater my son is in 3rd grade here at Ridge Road Elem. I have been married to my husband for 15 years this December. I have lived in Arkansas for almost 30 years now. I moved down here from Chicago with my mom when I was 8 years old. We love to camp and play on the lake. I love to read and I am a big kid at heart. My favorite book series are Hunger Games, Twilight, Percy Jackson, House of Night. Our Favorite movies are Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit just to name a few. I work part time at Hillcrest Camshaft in Little Rock, Ar. I am so beyond happy to PTA president, and will do my best to help make Ridge Road Elem one of the coolest schools in the district.
We are collecting Box Tops for Education this year. We hope everyone will participate in helping us collect them. Be sure to ask your friends and family to help us too. They are on so many different types of products. First Turn in date is October, so turn in what you have next week! Each box top is worth 10¢ for our school!! There are many exciting things we'd love to do with this money to make our school even better.
